At Greenbank Animal Sanctuary & Poultry Rescue, we understand that circumstances sometimes necessitate the surrender of a rabbit or guinea pig. Our goal is to provide a safe, caring environment for all animals in need. To streamline this process and ensure the well-being of every rabbit and guinea pig, we require the following steps to be taken:
Steps to Surrender a Rabbit or Guinea Pig
1. Complete the Surrender Form:
We only accept applications with a fully completed surrender form. This form is essential as it provides us with detailed information about the rabbits' or guinea pig’s health, behavior, and history, which helps us to provide the best possible care.
2. Found a Rabbit or Guinea Pig?
If you have found a rabbit or guinea pig, please fill out your personal details and the Stray Movement Order form. This form ensures that we have all the necessary information about where and how the animal was found, as well as consent from the finder to move the animal to our sanctuary.
3. Submit the Forms:
Ensure all sections of the form are fully completed and accurate. Incomplete forms may delay the surrender process.
4. Donation:
We politely request for a £10 donation with any rabbits or guinea pigs submitted. This donation helps cover the initial costs of care, including food, shelter, and medical attention.
If the rabbit or guinea pig is accompanied by a companion of a similar breed, size, and age, the donation is waived. Having a companion can reduce stress and improve the overall well-being of the animals during their transition.
Why We Require These Steps
Detailed Information:
The forms provide us with crucial information about the rabbits' or guinea pig’s health and behavior, which helps us to integrate the animal smoothly into our sanctuary and address any specific needs it may have.
Legal and Logistical Clarity:
The Stray Movement Order ensures that the transfer of the animal is legal and documented, protecting both the finder and the sanctuary.
Financial Support:
The £10 donation assists us in providing immediate care for the rabbit or guinea pig. This support is vital as it helps cover expenses such as veterinary check-ups, feed, and housing improvements. The waiver for animals surrendered with a companion ensures that animals, which often do better with company, are accommodated without additional financial burden on the person surrendering them.
Additionally, the donation helps to secure a compatible companion for rehoming with the rabbit or guinea pig. We prioritize rehoming animals in pairs to ensure they have a companion, which significantly improves their quality of life.
By adhering to these guidelines, you help us to maintain a high standard of care for all animals at Greenbank Animal Sanctuary & Poultry Rescue. Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care.
